Police raid wood workshop hidden in forest

Kampong Thom provincial police raided a wood workshop hidden in the forest in Sandan district on Sunday morning.

District police chief Oung Maly said the workshop was built illegally and had no licence for operation.

“Provincial and commune police came to crackdown on the location. The workshop had been set up inside the forest in Mean Rith commune to cut wood,” he said. “It had no licence.”

“The workshop was in a village deep inside the forest,” he added. “We seized two cubic metres of wood and cutting machines.”

According to a National Police report, police seized one cutting machine, 110 pieces of wood boards and 23 logs.Tumring commune police chief Keng Vanny, who discovered the site, said no one was working there during the raid.

“My forces investigated and sought cooperation with the provincial police. When we raided the workshop, there was no one there and no one has claimed ownership,” he said.

The items seized were brought to the provincial police office, he added.
