A sugarcane plantation company in Koh Kong province’s Srae Ambel district on Friday was accused of being responsible for the deaths and injuries to a local famer’s herd of 12 buffaloes.

Shortly after the incident took place, provincial governor Mithona Pouthorng ordered local authorities to investigate why the animals were killed and injured by gunshots in Chi Khor Leu commune.

“Regarding the death and injury of the buffaloes, I ordered local authorities to investigate to find out the cause,” Ms Mithona said on Facebook on Saturday.

The buffalo herd owner, Sok Nge, 48, could not be reached for comment yesterday.

In Kongchit, the Koh Kong coordinator for rights group Licadho, said six buffaloes were shot dead and another six were injured.
