A woman accused of killing her two sons in a botched triple suicide appeared at Kampot Provincial Court yesterday afternoon.
Angkor Chey district deputy police chief Keo Yun identified the suspect as Pak Soheng, 24.
He said Ms Soheng was angry at her husband for abandoning her, so she attempted to kill herself and her two sons.
Mr Yun said the incident took place on Tuesday at a guesthouse in Angkor Chey district, where the woman had brought her children from their home in Takeo province’s Traing district
“She was angry with her husband,” he said. “She had seen a picture of him with another girl and asked him to choose between her and the children or the new girl. The husband chose the new girl.”
Mr Yun said the mother fed her children rice laced with sleeping pills and overdosed on the medication herself.
“After taking the poison, she called her husband and told him what she had done. Her husband then came to the guesthouse and alerted the receptionist,” he said.
“They went up to the room and found the children unconscious and the wife convulsing. The three were sent to Takeo provincial hospital, but the two children died on the way.”
Mr Yun said Ms Soheng recovered and was transferred to Kampot provincial hospital, where she attempted to run away, but was stopped by police.
“She is now in provincial police detention,” he said.
Provincial police chief Mao Chanmathurith confirmed the woman was in police custody and the court case against her was being prepared.
