Kampong Speu provincial police inspected dozens of wood workshop in Oral district on Tuesday in an effort to ensure the legality of their businesses.
Ping Pov, anti-economic crime bureau chief, said yesterday that his forces found some irregularities at the workshops.
“Our operation on Tuesday was to check that the wood workshops had licences to operate their businesses,” he said. Noting some had expired licences and were instructed to seek renewal.
Mr Pov noted the workshop owners were made to sign a contract promising to renew their licences.
“After the inspections, we found that all of the workshops we checked had permission to do business, but their licences were expired, so we let them sign a contract,” he said.
Mr Pov said those with expired licences could have had their operations suspended, but many were small scale family businesses, so police showed leniency.
