Kampot Provincial Court yesterday charged in absentia a 53-year-old businessman accused of producing fake motor oil.

Provincial police chief Major General Mao Chanmakthurith identified the man charged as Uy Ngoy, the owner of an oil processing company in Chhouk district.

Gen Chanmakthurith said the accused remains at large and that police are continuing to look for him.

He said provincial police forces raided Mr Ngoy’s oil processing warehouse on Friday in Chhouk commune, where he had been producing fake oil for at least three years.

He added that police seized tonnes of oil during the raid.

“He was charged in absentia by the provincial court prosecutor for producing fake oil,” Gen Chanmakthurith said, noting the accused escaped prior to the raid.
