The Ministry of Health has warned the public to be careful and avoid using two traditional Chinese medicine products – Tong Mai Dan and Zhuan Guwan (505) – after finding both are fake and contain a chemical that can affect the health of consumers.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Health, the two traditional Chinese medicines are counterfeit products that contain a chemical called Dexamethasone. They are imported and distributed to some pharmacies and Chinese traditional medicine stores in Cambodia.
The ministry has also asked the Drugs Department, officials at the Health Department, pharmacies and all Chinese traditional medicine stores to recall these two products so they can be destroyed.
“If any pharmacies and traditional medicine stores do not remove, continue to sell and distribute these two counterfeit Chinese products, they will be punished under the Law on Drug Management,” the statement said.
Hean Kimseat, the Deputy Director of the Regulatory Office of the Health Ministry’s Drugs, Food, Medical Equipment and Cosmetics Department, said officers checking medicines have found some counterfeits at traditional medicine stores and burned them.
