Con artist tries to sell fake artefacts

Authorities in Stung Treng province’s Sesan district were yesterday seeking a man suspected of trying to sell three fake artefacts to villagers.

Oun Vannan, a police officer in Sesan district’s Kbal Romeas commune, said the man lured villagers into the sale by saying he found three valuable artefacts buried behind his house.

The suspect told the villagers he was willing to part with the items for $300, but they refused. Authorities were later called and came to the village to arrest the con artist, but he had already fled.

“The suspect buried the objects in his own backyard recently, and pretended they had been there for many years,” Mr Vannan said.
