The Environment Ministry’s park rangers have found a rare species of gecko in the Vireak Chey (var. Virachey) National Park, which sprawls from Ratanakiri to Stung Treng province.

The ministry’s Facebook post on Friday announced that the species found is the three-banded parachute gecko (Ptychozoon trinotaterra).  The locals call it the “flying gecko.”

Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam are the only three countries to which this reptile is indigenous, according to reptile-database.org.

The ministry takes this opportunity to remind all citizens, and foreigners that Cambodia is home to many a rare species; and that everyone should help conserve the natural resources of the Kingdom – be they animate or not.
