The chief of administration of a garment factory in Kandal province’s Ang Snuol district was arrested yesterday for allegedly stealing more than 1,000 items of clothing from the factory.
Sok Darith, a district police officer, identified the suspect as Ing Uytoan, 37, chief of administration at the Chinese-owned Tai Nan Garment Factory.
Mr Darith said according to the complaint from the factory’s representative, the factory had stocked about 200 boxes of clothes to be shipped to a client on the afternoon of January 13.
The company realised only 66 boxes were left yesterday. Reviewing CCTV footage, staff saw Mr Uytoan stealing the clothes.
Representatives quickly filed a complaint, and the suspect was apprehended. Five pairs of stolen blue jeans were found at the suspect’s Phnom Penh residence.
Mr Uytoan was accused of theft and faces three years in prison if convicted. He is still detained at the district police station.
