Takeo provincial police removed and burned more than 20,000 marijuana plants in Kirivong district on Thursday.
Lieutenant Colonel Mak Serey Vathana said all the marijuana plants found were removed and burned immediately. Police also found 63 wells used to water the plants at the scene on Thursday during the crackdown.
He added that the crackdown came after a police investigation and reports from villagers about marijuana crops.
Police also destroyed the wells used to water the marijuana.
According to Lieutenant Col Vathana, 21,371 plants were found at 56 locations in Preah Bat Choan Chum commune.
“We always check that area monthly because it is a complicated area which is difficult to get to,” he said, adding that the plants were on small plots of land along a mountain and difficult for police to find.
The crackdown is not the first in this area, although no growers have ever been arrested.
