An Irish national and his Cambodian girlfriend were charged by Kampot Provincial Court with drug use and possession yesterday.
Bun Sarath, an officer with the provincial anti-drug police unit, identified the suspects as James Simon Kelly, 71, and his Cambodian girlfriend Luy Ean, 32.
“They were arrested when police raided Mr Kelly’s rental house, and caught them in the act of smoking drugs,” he said.
Mr Sarath said the two suspects were in contact with known drug distributors who brought narcotics to sell to foreign tourists in Kep and Kampot provinces.
After their arrest, police seized crystal methamphetamine, marijuana, a scale, a phone and a motorbike from the pair.
