Police officer arrested with meth

A police officer and four other suspects were charged yesterday by Kandal Provincial Court for drug use and trafficking.

Bun Rithy, deputy commander of Kandal military police, released the identities of the five.

He said Second Lieutenant Leang Vichetr, 35, a police officer with Takeo commune administrative police, was the ringleader of the operation.

The other suspects were Sar Rithyyang, 26, a motorbike taxi driver, Nem Dara, 29, unemployed, Nhem Tith, 37, unemployed, and Nhem Srea Mao, 44, also unemployed.

The five are being detained pending their trial.

They were arrested on Saturday after police raided Lt Vichetr’s house in Kandal province.

The arrest led to the seizure of eight packages of crystal methamphetamine, two phones, two motorbikes, and related drug materials.

All of the suspects tested positive for drugs.
