Cambodia’s Chan Vathanaka notched his first goal for new club Pahang FA, albeit in a 4-1 defeat to Melaka United, in Tuesday evening’s second match of the MB Terengganu Cup now underway in Malaysia.
It was a trademark Vathanaka finish as the young forward bounded down the left flank in the 88th minute of the game to connect with his teammate’s scything through ball – he then proceeded to brush off the challenge of the backtracking defender and roll the ball past the keeper and into the far corner of the goal.
Vathanaka also started Wednesday evening’s match against Terengganu II and while not on the scoresheet, helped his side to a 2-1 victory.
Vathanaka made a high-profile switch to Pahang last month after an unsuccessful year-long loan spell in the Japanese J3-League with Fujieda MYFC.
While he made zero starts in Japan, he has been used more regularly at the Malaysian Super League club featuring and starting in numerous pre-season fixtures.
