An alleged drug ringleader was arrested on Tuesday in Siem Reap province, according to Sok Seila, deputy commander of Siem Reap provincial military police.
He identified the suspect as Chin Vichetr, 25, a construction worker.
“He was a drug trafficker in the province. He was arrested after our military police raided his house,” Mr Seila said.
After the arrest, the military police confiscated 673 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a phone, and other drug-related materials.
The suspect is now being temporarily detained pending further investigations. In an unrelated incident, a Phnom Penh tuk tuk driver was arrested yesterday for selling marijuana to tourists.
Veng Seng, an officer with the municipal anti-drug police unit, identified the suspect as Pov Socheath, 36.
The suspect was arrested as he was driving in Daun Penh district along Sisowath Quay, where he met foreign tourists and sold drugs to them.
Police inspected his tuk tuk and found many packages of marijuana hidden inside it.
Mr Seng said police confiscated nearly half a kilogram of drugs from Mr Socheath.
He will be sent to the municipal court for questioning today.
