Phnom Penh Municipal Court charged a businesswoman yesterday for issuing fake cheques worth $80,000.
Ly Sarith, an officer with Phnom Penh Municipal Military Police, identified the suspect as Sor Sokhorn, alias Srey, 59, a property businesswomen who lives in the city’s Por Senchey district.
She was charged with issuing a bad cheque and sent to prison pending her trial.
Mr Sarith said the accused was arrested in December 2017 after she was sued by Nay Sareth, 50, a woman living in Battambang province.
According to Ms Sareth’s complaint, Ms Sokhorn purchased a plot of land located in Battambang town worth $100,000 from her in April 2016. She handed over $20,000 in cash, but paid the rest with cheques that the plaintiff could not cash, leading to her complaint in November 2017.
