Two men were arrested yesterday for allegedly being involved in the illegal manufacturing of counterfeit identity cards and documents in Kampong Speu province.

Provincial police chief Brigadier General Sam Samoun said his police worked in collaboration with officers from the Interior Ministry’s identity department to carry out the arrests.

Brig Gen Samoun declined to reveal the identities of those arrested.

He said the two suspects remain in police detention at the provincial police station for further questioning.

He added that before the arrests, the photo shop was under surveillance for several weeks after police received a tip that it was producing illegal and fake ID cards and documents.

“They produced various kinds of fake legal documents and ID cards,” said Brig Gen Samoun.

Police seized a computer, printing machines, and other equipment used to produce the fake ID cards and documents after the arrests, he added.

“All of those items are being kept at the provincial police station,” he said.
