A young male wild elephant was found dead on Tuesday after it fell into a hole in the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary at Mondulkiri province.
According to the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) on Tuesday, the elephant was about one year old and was found dead after being trapped in a hole near O’Am village in Sre Ktum commune, Keo Seima district.
“It is a tragedy for wildlife conservation in Cambodia that requires strong conservation efforts to conserve the species from future extinction,” WCS said.
Tan Setha, WCS’s Technical Advisor, said the elephant died after becoming stuck in the hole.
“We really regret that we could not save this young elephant, but the location was deep inside the forest and we did not receive information in time,” he said.
