Since the victory 39 years ago on January 7, Cambodia has been developing and now had a vibrant economy, Prime Minister Hun Sen said on Sunday.

Mr Hun Sen spoke at a celebration to mark January 7 at Koh Pich in Phnom Penh on Sunday, where thousands of civil servants, students and members of the public participated in the ceremony.

He said January 7 was a second birthday for all Cambodians who survived the Khmer Rouge’s genocidal regime.

“Only the people who want to destroy national society and the people who forget their birth, forget their nation and forget their people are against celebrating the victory of January 7,” he said.

He added that the colour revolution plot of the former opposition party which colluded with foreigners in an attempt to overthrow the government had been dealt with under the law.
