Scott Bywater (Scoddy) played guitar for Oscar’s Band, last Saturday filling in for their regular axeman who went AWOL.
Oscar’s Band is the house band for Oscar’s at the Corner, at the intersection of Street 13 and Street 104. It might sound like a mouthful of Oscars but the house band does rock with the bar owner (Oscar again!) pounding the drums.
Bywater describes himself as “a kind of music guy” who writes a bit, and is a poet, singer, writer, guitar and harmonica player, who dabbles with drums and percussion and occasionally lo-fi video. He is also a founding member of The Cambodian Space Project and the WASH collaboration.
Bywater’s “Shore to Shore” official album launch is due this month – after a soft launch in October in Farm to Table. So watch this space if you want to sing along with Bywater to his “Phnom Penh Driving School”.
In the meantime, Oscar’s is deemed as “the best damn bar” in Phnom Penh – if you like rock, and want to be transported back to the 1970s. It’s Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now Redux, all over again!
