Police in Preah Sihanouk province’s Stung Hay district caught a Chinese manager attempting to steal construction materials from an oil refinery in Otres commune on Tuesday.

Ros Key, district police chief, said the arrest was made following a complaint from the oil refinery, which is still under construction.

“We arrested him while he attempted to steal steel bars using a truck and a crane. Factory representatives reported material losses recently and filed a complaint,” he said.

The suspect, Chinese national Me Gese Xies, 58, is the factory manager.

He confessed to stealing materials many times before and was sent to provincial police for further questioning, Mr Key said.

Court spokesman Lim Bunheng said the suspect was to be sent to the provincial court yesterday.
