PHNOM PENH, June 17 – The AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search, the regional fashion designer competition, has arrived in Cambodia for the first time. The two finalists chosen to represent Cambodia are Mr. Leach Savunthpenghuy, 21, and Mr. Kong Sothea, 22. They will be showcasing their creations at the Grand Finale in Kuala Lumpur in August. 
 
The AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search 2017 is on a regional tour to 10 Asean countries, providing aspiring designers with the opportunity of a lifetime to compete on a regional level and showcase their collection on a professional runway during the KL Fashion Week Ready to Wear. 
 
Pornpun Ratanapitakkul, Indochina Marketing Manager, AirAsia, says: “We are very excited to be here today to see the creativity and interpretation of the Asean theme from young designers in Cambodia. This is the first time we are bringing the competition to this country, and the talents certainly did not disappoint. 
 
“With its unique cultural elements, there really is so much to offer from this nation and we are thrilled to support budding designers with a regional platform that will help kick-start their careers in the fashion industry. We look forward to seeing their creations on the runway and we wish the top two finalists the very best at the grand finale this August in Kuala Lumpur.”
 
Aspiring Cambodian designers went through extensive rounds of judging and were selected based on design creativity, originality, consistency of their collection, adherence to the Asean theme, practicality and stage presentation potential.
 
The regional auditions will continue in all the capital cities throughout all Asean countries where two from each country will be selected to battle for the top honour during the Grand Finale in Kuala Lumpur this August.
 
Both finalists from the audition in Cambodia will stand a chance to win 150,000 AirAsia BIG Points; a MYR25,000 (23,800,000 Riel) fund to produce a capsule collection to be sold on fashionvalet.com; a six-page fashion spread in AirAsia’s in-flight magazine, Travel3Sixty; AirAsia flights and mentorship from the KLFW RTW, apart from a confirmed slot to showcase their full collection in KL Fashion Week RTW 2018. 
 
This year’s selection committee, made up of Andrew Tan, Founder of KL Fashion Week Ready to Wear; Pornpun Ratanapitakkul, Indochina Marketing Manager, AirAsia; Tan Hooi Min, Head of Buying for FashionValet alongside Don Protasio, Creative Director of Fashion Lab Magazine and Natacha Van, Cambodian Fashion Designer, were impressed by the quality of entries showed by all participants with commitment to the ethos of Asean. 
 
AirAsia is also KLFW RTW 2017’s Preferred Travel Partner and will be flying in fashion designers from AirAsia and AirAsia X Groups’ extensive route network including India, Japan, China, South Korea and Australia to showcase their latest collections at the KLFW RTW runway.
