Police netted more than 50 kilos of methamphetamine and heroin after a routine arrest led to the discovery of a massive haul of drugs at a house in Phnom Penh.

Interior Ministry officers on Wednesday night detained two men near Central Market after catching them with 2kg of drugs.

The suspects confessed under questioning and told officers they had bought the drugs from a house in front of Samroang Andet pagoda in Sen Sok district.

Police raided the house, found a further 50kg of drugs, and arrested a man employed to guard the property.

General Meas Vyrith, secretary-general of the National Authority for Combating Drugs, said small-scale arrests had the potential to lead to big drug busts.

“The ringleaders are still at large,” Gen Vyrith said, adding that police were continuing their investigation.
