Unsafe fuel stations must close, says government
The government is taking urgent action to prevent accidents in the fuel industry.
Mines and Energy minister Suy Sem has contacted city and provincial governors and ordered them to immediately close down any operation which does not have safety certificates.
Mr. Sem reminded local authorities of the need to maintain safety standards in oil and gas stations and instructed station owners they need licenses to stay in business and must modify their premises if they don’t comply.
Ngoun Leng, deputy director of the LHR gas station network, insisted his company had already made safety a priority.
“I’m the owner and therefore have more need to prevent accidents than any ministry or other institution because it’s my business,” he said.
