Police release cockfighting gamblers
POLICE have released three Vietnamese cockfighting gamblers who admitted cheating at Koh Roka commune in Prey Veng province.
The man and woman were allowed home after signing a pledge to not repeat the offence.
Provincial police chief Sreng Chea said the arrests had been made by ring security and a local officer.
“The men came to gamble on cockfighting but were caught using a drug to sedate one of the cocks and then place bets on the one that was not drugged,” he said.
“The ring owner questioned them and then got them to sign the pledge and let them go.”
The National Police said the men did not have the correct documentation for legally entering Cambodia, and questioned the legality of the ring operation.
Mr. Chea admitted he was not sure if the cockfighting ring was licensed and said such questions should be directed at the owner of the operation, whom he declined to name.
“If you want to know if it has a license or not, go and ask the ring owner. He will know,” was all he would say.
