The leaders of the government and opposition are expected to hold long-awaited talks towards the end of next week.

According to an official letter signed by acting opposition leader Kem Sokha, his party’s members have asked for dialogue with leaders from the government this month as there are many issues they want to discuss.

Interior Minister Sar Kheng responded, saying he had been too busy with his work to meet over the Christmas and New Year period, but added that a meeting would be possible in the coming week.

“I hope that dialogue between both parties is able to take place after January 11, 2017,” he said. “As for the actual time, my cabinet will inform your cabinet later.”
