Police Officer on Drug Charges

A POLICE officer in Tbong Khmum province has been arrested for alleged involvement in drug use and trafficking.
 
Second Lieutenant Prum Tithya, 28, who works with the provincial minor crimes unit in Tbong Khmum province, was detained on Tuesday.  
 
Captain Chuon Samnang of the provincial anti-drug trafficking unit said Lieutenant Tithya was arrested by provincial anti-drug police at a casino on the Cambodian-Vietnamese border in Ponhear Krek district.
 
“He was a provincial police officer but he was also a drug user and a gambler,” Cap. Samnang said yesterday.
 
“He was arrested after he had been buying drugs for sale to users in the casinos on the border of Cambodia and Vietnam.”
 
Police seized five small packages of crystal methamphetamine and other drug-related materials from Lt. Tithya after his arrest, Cap. Samnang said.  
 
Lt. Tithya was charged with drug use and trafficking. He was being temporarily detained at the provincial anti-drug police office and is to be sent to the provincial court for questioning and further charges today.
