Police are hunting for a Preah Sihanouk province deputy police chief who illegally discharged his weapon last Sunday after a Russian waitress declined his offer for sex.

Military police officer Keo Savuth said the incident happened at the Chinese-owned Seven Bar where the Russian woman was working as a waitress and beer promoter.

“He got angry with the Russian woman for refusing to sleep with him. He then fired a bullet into the air before he drove off in his car, fleeing the scene,” he said.

“For this case, he is accused of allegedly illegally firing his weapon.”

The wanted officer has been named as Colonel Ben Dara, the deputy provincial police chief in charge of healthcare and education affairs. He had recently been transferred from the Phnom Penh Municipal Police.

According to Mr. Savuth, Col. Dara and two of his friends had driven to the Seven Bar late on Saturday night in a Lexus SUV and had been drinking into the early hours of Sunday morning.

Once they were finished drinking at approximately 1am Sunday morning, Col. Dara then propositioned the Russian woman, who declined to get into his car or have sex with him.

He became enraged and fired a single shot into the air before he sped off in his vehicle.

Preah Sihanouk provincial police chief Major General Chuon Narin said yesterday that police were still investigating the case.
