Man Arrested Over Counterfeit CDs and DVDs
The 50-year-old owner of a CD and DVD production company was arrested yesterday in Kratie over allegations of manufacturing copies of licensed products without the permission of the copyright holder, according to officials.
Major Ros Sreng, Deputy Chief of the Provincial Anti-Economic Crimes Unit in Kratie province, said that after arresting Kim Mouv, provincial police confiscated about 2,000 pirated goods as well as a copying machine from his shop in Samaky market in Kratie village.
“He was arrested based on complaints from other CD/DVD production companies that he had copied CDs/DVDs without approval from the owners of the copyright, and had produced counterfeit CDs/DVDs for wholesale,” he said.
“He was accused of establishing an illegal CD/DVD business, as well as copying and producing counterfeit CDs/DVDs from other production companies in the Kingdom,” he added.
The suspect is now being temporarily detained and will be sent to provincial court this morning to be tried.
