The Cambodian Embassy in Malaysia has repatriated 13 Cambodian migrant workers over the past few weeks after being rescued this month, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

It said the workers were cheated by brokers to work abroad illegally and experienced poor working conditions as housemaids in Malaysia between 2015 and 2016.

Aged between 19 and 41, the women were from Tboung Khmum, Kampong Cham, Stung Treng, Kratie, Kampong Thom, Ratanakkiri, Kampong Speu and Kampot provinces.

Three groups of women arrived in Phnom Penh International Airport this month. First were two women on November 10, second were ten women on November 12, and third was only one on November 20.

According to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs report, the ministry assisted with the repatriation of more than 450 Cambodian workers in the first six months of the year, including 134 from Malaysia.
