About 30 students at the Hun Sen Phum Thmey high school in Ratanakkiri province’s Banlong town fainted on Saturday without reason, but health officials said their classes may have lacked proper ventilation.

Thun Yon, director of the school, said four or five students fainted last Monday, but then about 30 fainted on Saturday.

“The students started to faint since Monday until Saturday and we do not know the exact reason yet,” he said. “I called their parents when the students fainted and they were sent to hospital, but the doctors could not find the reason.”

“On Saturday, we gathered all students and parents to celebrate the Buddhism blessing, but when we finished, more students started to faint,” added Mr Yon.

The school director said that almost all students who fainted said they saw something in the classroom and became scared before fainting. Oung Ratana, provincial health department director, said yesterday that the students recovered already, but declined to comment further.

According to the local media, Mr Ratana said on Saturday that each class at the school is lacking proper ventilation and is in need of fans.

On Thursday, more than ten students at the Hun Sen Ang Stok high school in Kampot province also fainted.
