About 30 students at the Hun Sen Phum Thmey high school in Ratanakkiri province’s Banlung town fainted on Saturday for an as yet unknown reason, but health officials claimed their classrooms do not have enough oxygen.
Thun Yon, the director of Hun Sen Phum Thmey high school, said four or five students in his school started fainting since last Monday. The numbers who fainted rose on Saturday.
“The students started to faint from Monday until Saturday and we do not know the exact reason yet. I called their parents when the students fainted and they sent to them hospital, but the doctors could not find the reason,” he said.
He said the parents then sent their children to a pagoda for a monk’s blessing and then they recovered.
“On Saturday, we gathered all the students and parents to celebrate the Buddhism blessing, but when we finished more students started to faint,” said Mr Yon.
Health Department officials who visited the school and classrooms said that each room was lacking oxygen and suggested fans be installed.
