A Chinese company has asked Prime Minister Hun Sen to support its investing in a project at Preah Sihanouk’s Steung Hav International Port and Special Economic Zone.

The request was made in a meeting at the National Assembly on Friday between Prime Minister Hun Sen and Zhang Mengxing, Vice President of China Metallurgical Group Corporation.

After the meeting, Eang Sophalleth, assistant to Mr. Hun Sen, told media that the company is presently cooperating with tycoon Lim Chhiv Ho (Chairperson of the Phnom Penh SEZ) to expand the existing S’ville SEZ, and enlarge the port so it can accommodate vessels of 50,000 tons.

Mr  Sophalleth said “He [Mr. Menxing] asked the government and Samdech to support the project.”  Mr  Mengxing  also suggested the creation of a technical work group to contribute to the development of the project.

The Prime Minister welcomed both the project and the idea of a work group.
