A land dealer was tried yesterday by Phnom Penh Municipal Court for cheating an associate out of $350,000 during a land transaction in Por Senchey District in 2015.
Judge Ky Rithy identified the accused as Nuon Meng Hour, 49.

He was arrested in May 2017 and charged with “breach of trust”.

Judge Rithy said that in 2014, Mr Meng Hour and his associate Bun Heng invested in a joint venture property business for buying and leasing land.

In 2015, Mr Meng Hour took a total of $350,000 from Mr Heng to buy a plot of land, which was located in Chom Chao commune.

About a month later, Mr Meng Hour failed to produce any land, or land documents for Mr Heng.

Mr Heng then demanded his money back from Mr Meng Hour, who failed to repay.

He later filed a lawsuit against Mr Meng Hour.

Mey Samedy, the plaintiff’s defence lawyer, said his client needs his money back.

“To find justice in this case, my client has demanded a total of $350,000 from the accused and another $100,000 in compensation,” he said.

During his trial yesterday, Mr Meng Hour confessed that he borrowed $200,000 from the plaintiff, not $350,000.

“The reason why I did not pay him back was because I received only $200,000 from him but he demanded me to repay $350,000,” he told the court. “I recognise that I owe him $200,000.”
