A cargo train collided with a soil truck in Phnom Penh’s Por Senchey district in the early hours of yesterday morning, police said.
The truck overturned in Kakap commune but the driver was uninjured.
Pal Sotha, chief of Kakap commune police, said the accident was likely caused by the driver crossing the train tracks carelessly. “No one was injured in the accident but the truck was overturned. The truck was likely driving too fast. After the accident, the train just kept going and did not stop,” he said.
Choup Pheakdey, deputy chief of Por Senchey district police, said the barriers between the road and train tracks were not down because it was night time.
“It happened at 2.30am. The truck was seriously damaged and pulled down the poles at the barrier,” he said.
The truck was sent to the municipal traffic police office, he added.
Royal Railway chief executive John Guiry did not respond to requests for comment.
