60 percent increase in drug busts and seisures

The number of drugs confiscated in the first nine months of this year has jumped by an incredible 60 percent, compared with the same period  last year, official said.

Meas Vyrith, general secretary of the National Authority for Combating Drugs said that drug related busts  was at 5,549 cases for the same period this year, compared with 2,143 cases  for the same period last year, leading to an increase of  62.91 percent.

Police and military police officials have arrested 12,255 suspects,  including 1,266 women during this period, compared to 4,158  arrests during the same period in 2016, leading to a 51.35 percent increase.

“We confiscated 359 kilos of drugs,  including methamphetamines (Ice) and drugs containing a mixture of methamphetamine and caffeine (WY), Ecstasy, heroin, Cocaine and  ketamine,” Mr Vyrith said.
