Battambang Provincial Court charged a 16-year-old girl with fraud on Sunday for cheating the Ly Hour Money Transfer Company out of thousands of dollars in Battambang town, a court official said yesterday.

A military police report said that Hang Kim Eng hacked into the Facebook account of the company and chatted to an agent to transfer money to her phone number multiple times, with each transfer worth at least $1,000.

She managed to successfully collect the transfer several times before being arrested in a sting operation after the company filed a complaint to police.

Spokesman for the provincial court Seng Phanith confirmed the suspect was arrested in Battambang town on Saturday and charged with fraud by the court on Sunday.

“She was sent to the court on Sunday and was charged with fraud,” he said. “After the charge, the girl was then sent to the provincial prison.”

If found guilty, she faces two to five years in jail.
