Two female military officers were killed and two others were injured in a traffic accident in Kampong Chhnang province on Sunday while returning from their duties in Battambang province.

The crash occurred in Rolea B’ier district’s Teuk Hoat commune, where their vehicle crashed through a bridge railing and into a canal.

Rolea B’ier district police chief Som Veourn said yesterday that the accident took place at about 7.20pm along National Road 5 at the Krang Rompeak bridge.

Mr Veourn said Phan Pov, 52, the driver, and Kun Bopha, 49, were killed and two other military officers were injured.

“The reason for the traffic accident may be because the driver was sleepy and veered into the bridge railing, causing the vehicle to overturn and crash into the canal,” he said.
