The Ministry of Health yesterday issued a statement saying 35 students who protested over their exam grades last week were not on track to become medical professionals, but had simply failed to pass the entrance test for foundation year training.

The prospective students of the University of Health Sciences on Tuesday posted a petition to Prime Minister Hun Sen’s Facebook page asking for his intervention to change their failed exam grades, saying they were committed to the medical profession.

According to the ministry, the students last month failed exams to enter foundation year training to become doctors.

The statement said the 35 young people were not students of University of Health Sciences and should not have posed outside the institution for a photograph, which they later posted with their petition on Mr Hun Sen’s Facebook page.

Soum Maborit, a student who signed the petition, last week said the failing students believe they received low grades because the Health Ministry had a quota on how many students could pass.
