Svay Rieng Provincial Court yesterday charged a 54-year-old farmer with premeditated murder over the axe killing of his brother-in-law.

Provincial deputy police chief Kuy Sopheap identified the accused as Nuon Na, living in Kork Pring commune.

So Vang, 60, was killed in his house on Saturday at about 6pm.

Mr Sopheap said the accused was arrested a day after the murder.

Khan Sopheak, a Svay Chroum district police officer, said that on Saturday evening Mr Vang’s family discovered his body, hacked with an axe.

“According to an examination of the victim’s body, he was killed by three strikes to his head and one to his left hand,” Mr Sopheak said.

Mr Sopheak said the accused was arrested based on evidence that linked him to the crime, including the axe and his bloody sandals which were left at the crime scene.

When questioned, the suspect confessed that he killed the victim because they were having a dispute over the boundaries of their rice fields.
