Police in Takeo province are hunting for the owner of more than 10 kilos of marijuana seized on the Cambodian-Vietnamese border on Saturday.

Kirivong district deputy police chief Yuk Sarath said a Vietnamese suspect was seen driving toward the border in Preal village, carrying the drugs on his motorbike.

Mr Sarath said the suspect spotted a group of police patrolling a border checkpoint, dropped the marijuana from his bike and drove off into the forest.

Police were unable to apprehend him but seized 10 packages of marijuana weighing 10.8 kilograms.

In a similar case last week, a Vietnamese man was arrested by Cambodian police as he attempted to transport 11 kilograms of marijuana over the border in Kirivong district.

He has been detained in provincial prison and faces a sentence of between five and 10 years if convicted.
