Police raid illegal timber warehouse

Police raided a warehouse in Pursat province’s Veal Veng district on Friday, seizing tonnes of illegal luxury timber after the owner fled.

Khun Ren, Pramoy commune police chief, said that the operation was conducted by the forestry administration and officials from the National Police as well as the district military police.

Song Than, a district military police officer, said that when he arrived at the warehouse, the owner had already fled.

“When we raided the warehouse, we did not see the owner,” he said. “The owner knew of the operation beforehand, but we found tonnes of timber.”

The timber was sent to the forestry administration, Mr Then added.

According to National Military Police spokesman Eng Hy, the timber seized totalled 328 pieces, all of which were thnung wood, equivalent to 4,728 kilograms.

Mr Hy identified owner of the warehouse as Huy Srey, 46.

“Currently, forces are investigating to find the owner to face legal punishment,” he said.
