Nearly 60 workers at a factory at Canadia Industrial Park fainted yesterday morning after 40 of their colleagues passed out the previous evening.

The workers fainted at Dishang Huawei factory at the park in Por Senchey district’s Chom Chao commune.

The park hosted a visit from Prime Minister Hun Sen on Wednesday, where he made a speech about improving the livelihoods of factory staff and vowed to stay on in power for another ten years.

Mr Hun Sen’s visit was in the morning, and the first 40 workers fainted later that day.

Chom Chao district police chief Theng Kosal said the staff passed out because of poor health, not because of conditions in their factory.

“First, one person fainted and then the others followed. A report from clinic officials said their health was very weak. They had low blood sugar but are better now,” he said.

“Police went to examine the factory and the environment is fine.”

Mr Kosal said the sick workers were being cared for at a local clinic and had been given a day off to rest by the company.

Lim Sokheng, an official at Dishang Huawei, declined to comment.
