A Cambodian labourer working in Thailand died on a pig and fish farm when he was sucked into a reservoir drainage pipe.

Thieng Yin, 27, who worked with his wife Oun Mao on the farm, was said to have got into the water to take a steel cap off the 50cm pipe used to pump the water from one reservoir to another.

The incident took place in Mueang district of Prachinburi province.

A colleague called out but those who came to help did not know how to swim and it was too late because the victim was completely dragged into the pipe, a National Police report said.

It took about two hours for the pipe to be dug out of the ground and for his body to be recovered.

His body was sent to the embassy to be sent home.
