The Ministry of Environment is to hold a national forum on reducing pollution in protected areas next month.
Khieu Borin, spokesman for Environment Minister Say Samal, said yesterday that the minister wanted to focus on reducing waste pollution in national and community protected areas.
The meeting will take place on August 22 and all provincial environment departments are to take part.
Mr Borin said the meeting would also include discussions of a sub-decree to transfer full waste management control to sub-national levels in the areas to be discussed.
People Centre for Development and Peace president Yang Kim Eng supported the idea.
“Environmental issues are crucial and we have to address them,” he said.
“We hope that the ministry continues to work on this matter.”
During yesterday’s meeting, Mr Samal said the coming national forum will be presided over by Prime Minister Hun Sen.
