The Interior Ministry yesterday created a working group to review possible loopholes in a royal decree establishing a social security healthcare fund for public officials, civil servants and veterans.

Interior Minister Sar Kheng presided over a meeting with some senior National Police officers to review the decree to make sure it also benefitted National Police officials if they got injured or disabled.

Lieutenant General Chea Sokunthea, who declined to give his position while speaking to reporters after the meeting, said some articles of the royal decree were not stipulated to provide benefits to National Police.

“Our police officials who get injured or disabled aren’t stated in the decree so we lose some benefits,” he said, adding that the royal decree was signed by the king in February 2017.

“We will discuss this issue and make a report for Mr Kheng to forward our request to government heads of state to get those benefits that our police used to get in the past.”
